Originally made-to-measure for the Finnish Presidential Independence Day Reception, this trashion evening gown is constructed from over 5000 aluminium coffee capsules, hand cut into 14 000 sequins, each of them appliquéd to the dress bodice.

When we received the order for the dress, we at Remake atelier acknowledged that the evening gown should be a spectacular sight and possess a certain show stopper character, but never the less abide by the etiquette rules. Remake atelier has produced several evening gowns for the Presidential Independence Day Reception, for instance the famous black leather dress worn by actress Laura Birn, so we knew that the outcome should be glamorous and wearable and flaunt its wearer throughout the Independence Day Reception.

The coffee capsule dress – with all its hand cut sequins – is the work of 20 people and took 150 hours to make. It was essential to design and plan the project well, like we at Remake atelier do with all our customer work. On top of this, the evening gown and its unusual material required a lot of testing on how the coffee capsule sequins could appliquéd to the dress so that they wouldn’t bother the client or look wrong in camera lights. Technical know-how is a core competence of Remake eco design atelier and all made-to-measure garments are fitted by professionals during preparation, usually 1 to 3 times per garment.

All of Remake evening gowns and custom order garments are made in our atelier usually sourcing local recycled materials.
